Canadian Rockies Cowboy Festival, May 27-29th
Review by Larry Krause
"Just like springtime in Alberta
Warm sunny days and the skies of blue
Then without a warning
Another winter storm comes raging through"
-Ian Tyson
For as accurately as his song "Springtime in Alberta" portrayed the weather at this year's 6th annual Canadian Rockies
Cowboy Festival, at the David Thompson Resort, you would have figured Ol' Ian was in the back benches for the whole weekend.
But a couple of little squalls quickly blowing through sure didn't slow down the very professional and talented musicians
that took to the stage, one right after the other.
The weekend featured performers including Eli Barsi, Ed Peekeekoot, The Travelling Mabels, Larry and Dwain Sands, Danny
and Susan Gibson, and Larry Krause, backed up by Mike Dygert and Jim Peace, otherwise known as Dutch Creek. Now keepin
the whole thing pointed in same direction and on the trail was the weekend's MC, Bj Smith, who had the audience spellbound,
as he not only told his tales while the musical acts were changing, but very ably kept the flow of the entire weekend movin
along.
Every evening folks were invited to dance to the music of the Three Musty Steers. The feature headliner for the weekend
was Moe Bandy, who put on a great, down to earth, solid show that folks will be talkin and sayin good things about, until
the next time they go see him.
Now you add to all that entertainment, the great scenery, beautiful campground, fantastic food, fine facilities, Steak
supper, and the David Thompson Resort hospitality, which if it isn't already will soon be legendary, and the 7th annual
Canadian Rockies Cowboy Festival has to be on your list of places to be in 2012.
