Canadian Rockies Cowboy Festival
Review by: Al Owchar
The David Thompson Resort, which is located on the Kootenay Plains between Nordegg and
Saskatchewan River Crossing, held their 5th Annual Canadian Rockies Cowboy Festival on May 28,
29 and 30th, 2010. The festival is usually held on an open stage situated in a small clearing
just south of the camping area. Because of the cold and wet weather, Ron Killick (resort owner)
decided to move the show to the Belldome tent this year. It worked out very well and because of
the smaller seating area every performance played to a jam packed crowd.
This year's entertainment was provided by the following ACPA members: Perry Jacobson, Ed Brown,
Mike Dygert, Jim Peace, Mike Puhallo, and Al Owchar who played with both Danny and Susan Gibson
and the 3 Musty Steers dance band. A dance followed both Friday and Saturday performances. The
non ACPA performers were Tim Hus, Ed Peekeekoot, Gordie West, Dave McClure and Danny and Susan
Gibson.
Considering the weather, the festival was well attended.
For the second year in a row, the excellent sound (equipment and 2 sound men) was provided by
Lees Music from Kamloops.
